My journey to creating this technology began in childhood. The summer I turned nine, my brother Eli and I spent countless hours building a time machine from cardboard and duct tape. We’d step inside and pretend that we’d gone back to the time of the dinosaurs—his idea—or to the future where we drove flying cars—mine. After Eli suddenly passed away later that year, I’d go to bed imagining that if I could invent a real time machine someday, I’d want to travel back to when the two of us sat in that box, dreaming about other worlds we could visit, playing like there’d always be more tomorrows. That childhood dream transformed into a mission to make time travel possible.

Years later, I brought together Nobel laureates, NASA engineers, and pioneers in cognitive science to turn this vision into reality. With the SAM 5000, named after my son, Sam, we created a way for you to relive an hour from your past—fully present, feeling every sensation and emotion.
